Happy Valentine's Day to all!
Our next meeting will be Thursday February 12 at 6 pm at the Bay Shore Library; the guest speaker will be Elizabeth Lambe, Executive Director of the Los Cerritos Wetlands Land Trust, who will speak about the wetlands and the city's process to update SEADIP. SEADIP is the planning document for an area covering 1,500-acres of southeast Long Beach, which includes the zoning for the business corridor along PCH from Bellflower Blvd. to the city's southern border with Seal Beach. Ms. Lambe is a member of the Community Advisory Committee for the SEADIP revision.
On Wednesday evening, February 11 at 6:30 pm, there will be a third SEADIP Community Workshop held at the Golden Sails Hotel, Marina Room, 6285 E. Pacific Coast Highway Attendees will be able to review and provide feedback on the proposed land use plan, alternative development scenarios, and design considerations. Commander Paul LeBaron will discuss Crime Trends (see attached Belmont Shore Crime Report for January with dates and locations of assaults, burglaries, vandalism, thefts, auto burglaries, DUI's, etc.) and he will share a Community Watch update. Internal Affairs Commander Richard Conant will have a presentation on Use of Force Investigations.
BAY SHORE LIBRARY SUNDAY HOURS BEGIN FEBRUARY 22
A kick off event hosted by Councilwoman Suzie Price will take place from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. The Bay Shore Library Sunday noon to 4 pm hours will last through the end of August. The pilot program was promoted by Councilwoman Price and is designed to provide data to determine whether shifting the current library hours in the City or adding additional hours at some libraries, would be a benefit to our community.
PARKING STUDY
Details should be available soon on issuance of the RFP (Request for Proposals) for the Belmont Shore Parking Study. The Scope of Work document is being handled by Mike Conway (Long Beach Director of Economic and Property Development) who asked Shore residents to send him comments and recommendations of items to be included in the RFP.
"THE CURIOUS DEVELOPMENT OF BELMONT SHORE" By Stanley Poe
Martha Jeffer, owner of the Shore Business Center on East Second Street, has posted in her front window and is handing out free copies of a delightful article about Belmont Shore written by Long Beach "historian extraordinaire" Stan Poe. Mr. Poe served eight years on the Cultural Heritage Commission for the City of Long Beach and has been honored as a "Preservationist of the Year", which is the highest honor given by Long Beach Heritage. The last line of Mr. Poe's article about Belmont Shore notes: "Part of its desirability is the true community feeling due to its active and concerned residents." Thank Marsha and say hello when you stop by.
