4th of July Queen Mary Fireworks
and Pet Owner Tips
Watch the sky light up on the Fourth in Long Beach! The All American 4th of July Fireworks Show from the Queen Mary can be viewed from all along our coast, beginning at 9:00 pm this Monday, 7/4.
Fireworks and the loud sounds of firecrackers can frighten our animals. Please note the following reminders from Long Beach Animal Care Services:
• Isolate pets indoors at home; they will be happier and not tempted to try to get away during loud sounds.
• If your dog is crate trained, put him in a crate covered with a blanket to make him feel more secure.
• Create a peaceful environment in your home, play soothing music and lower the blinds to block outside sights and sounds. If your pet seems anxious, spend time with him soothing him with a calm voice.
• A sudden change in your pet’s diet can cause stomach upset, avoid feeding your pet scraps from the grill and other human food. Some foods like onion, avocado, grapes and raisins can be toxic. Pets should never be given bones, especially from chicken.
• Keep pets away from flames, matches, and lighter fluid.
• Do not spray pets with insect repellant or sunscreen that is intended for humans, they can be extremely irritating to the stomach, lungs and central nervous system if ingested.
• Even if your pet is indoors with you, double-check yard gates and doors to make sure that pets cannot escape.
• Make certain pets are wearing identification, including the name and current telephone number of the owner. Confirm your pet’s microchip registration information is registered or updated.

BSRA Monthly Meeting
this THURSDAY NIGHT
May 12th, at 6:00 pm
at Bay Shore Library
195 Bay Shore Ave at 2nd Street
Guest Speakers will discuss Measures LB and A which will be on our June 7th Ballot. Come and ask questions; learn what you need to know to vote next month.
- Yes on Measure LB – Dr. Greg Peterson, VP of Student Services
- No on Measure A – Franklin Sims raised in Long Beach and a CSULB graduate, is a proud father and the Press Secretary for The Committee for Long Beach Families Against the 10% Sales Tax which is known around town and in local newspapers as the Long Beach Rebellion
- Representatives from Yes on Measures A&B were invited but have not yet confirmed. Mayor Garcia has highlighted the benefits he believes the 1% tax increase will bring, including addressing the city’s crumbling infrastructure and public safety needs. Others feel this increase will render Long Beach uncompetitive with surrounding cities and question whether funds raised by the measure would go toward the stated goals, due to what they consider imprecise wording of the measure.

EAST DIVISION LBPD TIP --
The best thing you can do to avoid an armed robbery is to BE CONSTANTLY AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS! And don’t be engaged in distracting behavior, such as walking and using your e-devices. Keep your head up and stay aware while out walking. ALWAYS HAVE A PRIMARY AND SECONDARY ESCAPE PLAN. No property is worth your life; if a perpetrator wants something, give it to them. BUT get a head-to-toe description with distinctive features. **Also, carry a high-quality, small, steel flashlight that has a clip on it which you can use to illuminate your way and, as a last resort, use as a striking instrument.

The BSRA general election will take place at the September 10th 2015 meeting, at the Belmont Shore Library. Your attendance is important to ensure the election of your board for next year. Members must be present to vote. Absentee votes are not allowed,
so plan now to come to the annual general membership meeting.
You must be a paid member to vote, so the August and September meetings are the perfect time to renew your membership, or to re-join if you are not currently a member.
Annual Dues is now $20.00/member. Each member is entitled to one vote at elections.

Long Beach's Community Emergency Notification System:
Just a reminder… Long Beach has a Community Emergency Notification System that allows the City's 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Center to rapidly notify residents and businesses by telephone of an emergency affecting their neighborhood or region of the city. This Reverse 9-1-1 system will automatically call listed and unlisted telephone numbers within the affected area and deliver the recorded message. If you have a landline phone within Long Beach, you do not need to sign up, as that phone number is already on the list, but if you would like to have your cellular phone or Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) added, please click here to create an account.

Update from Councilwoman Suzie Price's office on March 27:
The Ocean Boulevard repave project has been postponed. Based on Biologists’ recommendations, construction activities have the probability of creating disturbance or disruptions during nesting season in trees that are located along Ocean Boulevard therefore this project will resume at a later date and not earlier than the fall.
Based on this information, the permits that have been issued are not valid. Please do not use them in the Beach lots as citations will be issued. Regular parking on Ocean Boulevard will resume later this afternoon once all signs have been removed and the regular street sweeping schedule will resume next week.
